RoMa Craft
Volstead1920
Every bit strategic, intuitive and well-rounded, Roma Craft Tobac has discovered the formula for seamlessly blending pivotal periods in history with impeccably crafted creations. Over the years, the brand has become synonymous with elite smokes, being one of the first and few notable brands to quickly rise the ranks in the world of boutique cigars.
Preceded by the CroMagnon line, the RoMa Craft Tobac Intemperance cigar edition was created in 2012 by Mike Rosales and Skip Martin. Churning out notable blends backed by a significant message, the line was created in protest to the steadily growing anti-tobacco movement. Hence, when the Volstead 1920 line was announced, none who were able to participate early in its experience were anything less than enamored by its delivery.
Layering on the depth of storytelling, the Intemperance Volstead 1920 edition kicked off the second brand. Inspired by the law enacted to prohibit the consumption, creation, transportation and importation of alcoholic beverages, though while the law was passed in 1919, it was not until January 17th, 1920, after a delaying veto from President Woodrow Winslow, did it commence.
Released in 2023, the premium cigar was blended by co-founder and master cigar maker Skip Martin. This time around, the blend is lighter in comparison to its generally full-bodied counterparts thanks in part to a wrapper switch. One can say, the unveiling of the Intemperance blend ultimately set the tone and trajectory of just how high the brand can reach its pinnacle.
Hand rolled with the utmost attention to detail and care, the cigar is crafted in Esteli, Nicaragua factory, Fabrica de Tobacco Nica Sueno. Blend-wise, faint with the smell of leather, pre-light, the line inherits a savory, reddish-brown wrapper that is an Ecuadorian Sumatra Hybrid. Known for its complexity and enriching flavor profile, adding a kick for good measure, a Mexican San Andres leaf makes an entrance as binder. Finally, a combo persistent through the Intemperance series, a rare blend of Dominican Republic Corojo and Nicaraguan long filler comprise its core.
Specifically designed to appeal to a broader category of smokers than its predecessors, the smoke lands in the medium-full bodied range. Every draw enriches the senses with unforgettable tones and heady aromas. Well-suited for an array of palates, as a shop owner, you can have your patrons looking to your establishment as the go-to for luxury cigars ready for a breadth of occasions, moods and not to forget accessible price points.
Broadcast your exquisite taste as curator of your own shop when patrons light this highly enjoyable cigar with a retrohale no one would want to miss out on. Smokers can expect to delve into enriching and creamy notes of earth, spice, espresso. Furthering the indulgent notion long since associated with the brand, sweet cocoa hints and a touch of cashew are detected on the finish for balance.
Overall, the brand signature is multidimensional. Evocative of an infamous propaganda poster, a relic of sorts from the temperance movement lends itself to be prominently displayed at the front of the packaging that is a mini replica of wooden crates used to transport forbidden goods (in this case) across the seas. The political artwork speaks to the conviction to the reform much like the unwavering dedication of RoMa Craft to creating a symphony of cigars harmoniously blending historical events with history in the making in the cigar industry.
Debuting in 11 sizes, each named after an essential figure in the Prohibition Era, there are two iterations available to the public for purchase; five regular production Vitolas while the remaining six are limited. Enthusiasts will have access to premium cigars the likes of Volstead 1920 Bill McCoy (5 x 50), Volstead 1920 George Remus (5 x 56) and Volstead 1920 Roy Olmstead (5.5 x 54). Each with their own story relating to its nomenclature reaffirms the intricacies wrapped into the brand’s iter
