Las Calaveras directly translates to The Skulls, a reference to the iconic La Calavera Catrina etching from around 1910-1912. La Catrina is a ubiquitous character and is known as "The Dapper [female] Skull,". Its imagery depicts a female skeleton wearing an elaborate hat and has since been associated with the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
