HVC

Seleccion No. 1

This boutique-minded company is a driving force in the cigar industry and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Originally from Cuba, HVC founder Reinier Lorenzo often themes his cigars around Cuban culture and history. The very brand name "HVC" itself relates to Cuba, being a monicker of Havana City. Paying homage to Lorenzo’s Cuban roots is always top of mind with virtually all HVC cigars showcasing simplistic designs authentically capturing an old-word Cuban feel; nothing like the gimmicky and overdone imitations seen in the market throughout the years. Summer of 2022, HVC Cigars opened up their own factory in Estelí, Nicaragua called Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. de Reinier Lorenzo. Selección No. 1. is the first brand from the new factory and it is available in three sizes in two different wrappers. Lucky for us, it still utilizes tobacco from Aganorsa Leaf so the same great flavor profile that put HVC on the map will remain circulating on the cigar market. The original debut features a Mexican San Andres wrapper atop a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, Nicaragua which results in a full-bodied cigar. The cigar delivers flavor notes prominent in espresso, mocha and earth topped off with a spicy finish. It’s said there is nothing better than the original but its successor, referred to as the Natural, comes out swinging. It consists of a Habano wrapper over the same signature Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The medium-full bodied smoke emanates rich notes of rye, coffee, graham cracker and earth rounded out with a touch of spice. One may say that the presentation to HVC Selección No. 1, is the company’s best look to date. Whether it’s the canary green box—an eye-catching hue that will be quick to stand out in your humidor or its school bus yellow counterpart that would fits right in feeling at home once placed next to one another as they are both reminiscent of none other than Cuba, the look is unforgettable and quite memorizing. The band ditches the Florida Keys scheme, instead fittingly settling on an old-school red and gold complete with large and straightforward “HVC” branding as the focal point. The cigars are formatted into three Vitolas and packaged in boxes of 20 cigars with prices ranging from $8.60 to $10.60 MSRP. The three sizes are a Short Robustos measuring at 4.5x52, an Esenciales 5.58×46 and a Poderosos measuring 6x54.
